St Helens’ Top Brass Oral Histories

Posted on 04/05/2011 by

One St Helens’ oldest brass bands, The Parr Band, is celebrating its 75th anniversary year with a help from a £22,000 Heritage Lottery Fund grant.

With the help of St Helens Council’s cultural funding advisor, the band has secured enough money to produce a commemorative booklet and DVD, stage an exhibition and hold two community presentations. One major part of the anniversary project will be an oral history programme – involving interviews with band members past and present. Memories of those who have taken part in competitions over the years will also be recorded onto a DVD and made available through local libraries.
