Gurkha Stories is a community project preserving the rare stories of its Gurkha veterans who have settled primarily at Abbeygate House in Colchester. Many are now in their seventh decade and reflect back on their lives.

The public are invited to browse extracts from their stories on the project website: www.gurkhastories.com, which contains the whole journey of our project and showcases a special film of the Gurkhas made by the town’s youth community.

The website also has a section called ‘Secrets of the Gurkha Suitcase’ which contains a creative learning pack for primary schools (KS2) using the interview material from the veterans’ lives to help young students discover more about Nepal and the Gurkhas.

Gurkha Stories will be publishing an oral history book of the veterans’ stories later this year.

And a summer exhibition of Gurkha Stories is now open at Colchester Castle from 13th June to 13th September 2015.
